If you’re considering Wegovy as a potential treatment option, you likely have questions about what Wegovy is, how it works, and its side effects. This guide will help you learn more about Wegovy so that you can make a well-informed decision on whether this is the right treatment for you.
What is Wegovy?
Wegovy is the brand name for injectable semaglutide that is indicated for long-term weight management. The other form of injectable semaglutide, Ozempic, is authorized for sale by Health Canada to manage type 2 diabetes. Both use the same injectable semaglutide compound and work the same way on the body.
Injectable semaglutide helps the body better regulate blood sugar levels. It does this by mimicking natural hormones secreted from the pancreas that control blood sugar production. Injectable semaglutide also slows down digestion, so less sugar is absorbed from food into the bloodstream.
What is the difference between the various forms of injectable semaglutide?
In Canada, there are two brands of the same drug/compound, called injectable semaglutide. There are a few key differences between them, such as their intended use, dosage, and cost. Learn more about the differences between the various forms of injectable semaglutide.
