What is Benzoyl?
Benzoyl is a topical medication used for the treatment of acne vulgaris. It is available both over the counter and as a prescription. Benzoyl comes in a variety of forms including lotion, cream, and gel. It is also available in concentrations of 2.5 per cent, 5 per cent, and 10 per cent. The method you should use to apply Benzoyl will vary depending on the type you use.
How does Benzoyl work?
Benzoyl works at treating acne by targeting Cutibacterium acnes, a key component that causes acne vulgaris. The benzoyl peroxide is absorbed by the skin and converted into benzoic acid, which improves the symptoms of acne. Benzoyl kills the bacteria clogging pores and helps with the shedding of dead skin cells, treating existing acne and preventing more from forming.
