What is Biacna?
Biacna is a topical gel used to treat acne vulgaris which is characterized by comedones, inflammatory papules or pustules, with or without the presence of occasional nodules. It is not used for the treatment of other acne varieties like pustular and deep cystic nodular acne. The active ingredients in Biacna are clindamycin phosphate (a lincosamide antibiotic) and tretinoin (a retinoid).
How does Biacna work?
Biacna works due to the combination of clindamycin and tretinoin. Clindamycin is an antibiotic which suppresses the naturally occurring bacteria in the skin that causes acne to form. Meanwhile, as a retinoid, tretinoin exfoliates the outer layer of the skin to prevent new acne from forming. It can take several weeks or even months to notice symptoms improving.
