What are signs that your blood sugar is too low?
By the same token, low blood sugar brought on by type 2 diabetes may not show signs either, similarly to high blood sugar issues. Typically, low blood sugar levels can be caused by:
- Working out too much
- Drinking alcohol
- Not eating enough food
- Waiting too long between eating meals
- Taking certain medications
These causes of low blood sugar may then lead to symptoms of type 2 diabetes that are recognizable. These can be used as a sign that your blood sugars are below normal levels, such as feeling:
- Shaky or lightheaded
- Confused
- Unable to concentrate
- Headaches
- Irritable or anxious
- Tired or weak
- Numbness or tingling on your lips or tongue
- Sweating more than usual or for no apparent reason
- Hungrier than normal
- Nervous for no apparent reason
- Nauseous
- Disorientated
- Feint or losing consciousness
In severe cases of low blood sugar, it can even lead to seizures. If you start to experience any of these signs, you should contact your practitioner right away and seek immediate in-person care. If you are experiencing severe symptoms, please seek immediate in-person care.
They’ll be able to help you find healthy, safe ways to better control your blood sugar levels, as well as improve your type 2 diabetes management plan to reduce blood sugar fluctuations.
