Frequently asked questions

What are the BMI requirements for weight loss in Canada?

BMI, or Body Mass Index, is a measurement that uses your height and weight to estimate whether you’re in a healthy weight range for your height. There are a variety of eligibility factors that your healthcare practitioner will assess. However at minimum, those who have a BMI over 30 or a BMI 27-30 and a medical comorbidity such as diabetes, high cholesterol, or high blood pressure is required. If you're unsure of your BMI, calculate it here.

Who is eligible for the Felix Weight Loss program?

Canadians living with obesity – a BMI over 27 + a co-morbidity OR a BMI over 30. Patients must either reside in Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, or British Columbia and be a permanent resident or citizen of Canada. Patients are required to be in Canada while receiving care.

What types of treatment does Felix offer?

Felix offers several types of treatment as prescribed by a licensed Canadian healthcare practitioner. These treatments are used for long-term weight management.

Our program includes clinically-approved weight loss medications, educational resources, and the support you need.

We work with you to ensure you’re getting the appropriate treatment based on your goals, health, lifestyle, and any other factors that may impact your body size.

How much does the program cost?

The program has an initial fee of $99. This covers:

  1. Your initial virtual visit with your healthcare practitioner.
  2. Access to Felix’s Weight Management course, our holistic online resource that helps you make lasting, sustainable lifestyle changes.
  3. Some essential supplies you may need for your prescribed treatment.

You will have a 3 month follow-up visit with your healthcare practitioner to monitor your progress and make any adjustments to your treatment to make sure it is working for you. These follow-up visits cost $40 each. Once you achieve a steady-state, your visit schedule will change based on your healthcare practitioner’s guidance.

Medication costs for the program are separate and will vary depending on the medication prescribed and your private insurance coverage. Without insurance, the prescription weight loss medication costs vary by medication from $307 per pen to approximately $889 in some cases.

What makes this program different?

Our program recognizes that biological factors have a significant impact on how people gain, lose, or maintain weight. Things like genetics, hormones, and metabolic rate play a key role that diet and exercise alone can’t always overcome.

By combining prescription medication, support and resources to make sustainable lifestyle changes, and access to experts, our custom program meets you where you are so you’re never alone while you work towards your goals.

Why do I need to get lab testing?

Our healthcare practitioners need to get a full picture of your health in order to determine if treatment may be right for you. This includes lab testing in addition to our online visit.
