What is the difference between a basic and comprehensive metabolic panel?
In some cases, a basic metabolic panel test may refer to testing that’s done to check one specific area on the metabolic spectrum of health (i.e., just blood sugars, just thyroid function), or only a portion of all the potential areas to check.
On the other hand, a comprehensive metabolic panel blood test (or CMP blood test) refers to testing that covers all of these areas needed to maintain a healthy metabolism, as well as assesses your liver function.
