Patients across Canada have been waiting patiently for the arrival of generic Semaglutide treatments, and the time is finally here! This page will walk you through everything you need to know about how this new medication option will impact Felix patients.
How will this affect me if I’m a Felix patient?
The price of Semaglutide has dropped by more than 50%! If you’re an existing Felix patient who is already prescribed Ozempic our pharmacy will dispense the lowest cost Semaglutide available – currently Generic Semaglutide. No action will be required on your end to take advantage of these savings.
How will generic Semaglutide compare in price to brand-name equivalents?
The cost of generic Semaglutide is about 50% cheaper than its brand equivalent, Ozempic. The costs vary, based on things like whether you have private insurance coverage, manufacturer patient support programs and the province that you’re in.
We expect that the price of Ozempic will reduce and align with the cost of generic Semaglutide soon.
Do I need to make a change to my medication to take advantage of cost savings?
It depends on which brand-name medication you’re currently taking.
If you’re currently prescribed Ozempic, when the price change goes into effect, you’ll see the cost change automatically on your next refill. There’s nothing needed from you to take advantage of these savings.
Which type of generic Semaglutide is Felix going to offer?
At this time, Felix will be providing Apo-Semaglutide treatments for eligible patients across Canada.
Apo-Semaglutide is being manufactured by Apotex Inc. to provide these types of treatments to patients in Canada. Like Felix, Apotex Inc. is a Canadian company dedicated to the Canadian market and a long time partner with Felix.
Is there any difference in how generic Semaglutide functions compared to the brand-named versions?
No, there isn’t.
Chemically, generic Semaglutide is identical to its brand-name equivalents. The treatment must be authorized for sale by Health Canada, which means they have to submit multiple studies to prove bioequivalence – confirming it delivers the exact same amount of medicine into the body at the exact same rate, guaranteeing identical safety and effectiveness.
The design of the injection pen and the non-medicinal ingredients may vary, but apart from that, there’s no measurable difference between these treatments except their names.
How is generic Semaglutide going to be supplied in Canada?
If your healthcare practitioner determines that generic Semaglutide would be an appropriate treatment option for you based on your health, current condition, and medical history, they will be able to provide you with a prescription for generic Semaglutide.
Will there be pills or injections for generic Semaglutide?
Generic Semaglutide will only be available as a preloaded injection taken once per week at this time.
Will Felix still provide free delivery for generic Semaglutide treatments?
Yes, Felix and our pharmacy partners will still provide free delivery on all of our treatments across Canada, including generic Semaglutide for patients who receive a prescription.
Once you’ve received your prescription, it will typically take 2-4 days for a prescription to be filled and delivered to your chosen address in Canada.
